With the antsy Minnesota media corps waiting Wednesday morning for the latest on Adrian Peterson’s knee injury, coach Mike Zimmer stepped onto the podium in the indoor practice facility at Winter Park, took a swig out of a water bottle and revealed that his star running back would have surgery, potentially season-ending, on Thursday.
Oh yeah, and left tackle Matt Kalil was placed on injured reserve because of a hip injury.
Wait … What? Woah. There was even more bad news for the first-place Vikings?
Meanwhile, on the other side of the building, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater exited the locker room on crutches, took a look at the rain and joked, “I hope I don’t slip.”
The QB, who suffered a season-ending knee injury three weeks ago, made it to his car unscathed. The football gods do have their limits apparently.
Still, before making it to their third game, the Vikings have lost their ascending young quarterback, their All-Pro running back and their starting left tackle for most, if not all, of what they hope will be a special season. Upon bearing the bad news, Zimmer gave the stunned media a defiant shrug.
